HARRISONBURG, Va., June 28, 2012 – James Madison softball senior shortstop Ashley Burnham (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) was selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2012 Division I Softball All-Star team on Thursday. Burnham was a second team selection.
Burnham adds ECAC recognitions to her 2012 CAA Player of the Year accolade while also collecting First Team All-CAA, Second Team NFCA All-Region and Second Team VaSID All-State honors. She finished her senior season hitting .335 with a .395 on-base percentage and a .652 slugging percentage. Burnham added 15 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 42 RBIs, 38 runs scored, 14 walks and nine steals. She finished her career as JMU’s all-time lead in consecutive games started, home runs, doubles, RBIs, assists and total bases. She also holds single-season records for home runs, slugging percentage and assists.
The senior from Danvers, Mass., became the first player in school history to collect ECAC All-Star honors adding to a list of first in her prolific career. Burnham is the only player in CAA history to be named conference Player of the Year twice, is the only player in school to be voted First Team All-CAA three times and NFCA All-Region three times.
Lehigh’s Jennifer Colquhon was named the ECAC Player of the Year while Massachusetts pitcher Sara Plourde was named the Pitcher of the Year. Plourde’s freshman teammate Quinna Diaz-Patterson collected Rookie of the Year honors and her head coach Elaine Sortino was named the Coach of the Year.
