ATLANTA,
Ga., Oct. 23, 2011 - A goal by redshirt senior Jimmy Simpson (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier)
lifted the 20th-ranked James
Madison men's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Georgia State in Colonial Athletic Association action Sunday
afternoon.
JMU, which won its third game in a row, upped its record to 11-2-1 overall. The Dukes remained tied with Old Dominion for
first place in the league standings with a 7-1-0 record.
Georgia State, which lost for the first time in eight home games this season, has
a 10-5-1 overall record and is 4-4 in CAA play.
Simpson's goal came on a header off of a
crossing pass from redshirt freshman Jamal
Umar (Herndon, Va./Chantilly) in the 69 minute. It was Simpson's third score of the season,
and all three have been game-winners.
JMU redshirt senior goalkeeper Justin
Epperson (Herndon, Va./Oakton)
made five saves to earn his eighth shutout of the season.
Georgia State goalie Vincent Foermer made just one save.
The Dukes play their final regular-season home game against Old Dominion on
Oct. 26 before closing out the season with road matches at Drexel (Oct. 29) and
Hofstra (Nov. 5).
