Important Message Regarding the Future of JMU Athletics
James Madison University was pleased to share with you the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) Athletics Feasibility Study completed by CarrSports Consulting and received by the JMU Board of Visitors on October 4. As part of JMU’s overall commitment to transparency during its strategic planning process, the University welcomed feedback regarding the issues raised in the study. We greatly appreciated those who took the time to share their thoughts on this complex matter.
The next step in the process is to gain additional information on a critical piece of the Athletic FBS Feasibility Study – the fiscal issues section. If the university is invited and decides to move to an FBS Conference, the fiscal issues section of the study projects a Duke Club annual fund total goal of $4,120,000 by 2019. While the goal may appear aggressive, the increase over that period is manageable and averages a little over 12% per year. Historical data shows the previous five years of Duke Club annual giving averaged a growth rate of approximately 10%.
As the fundraising staff continues to refine our five-year growth plan to meet goals and gauge the level of support for a potential move from our current constituents, we are asking you participate in a survey. This request has been sent to all individuals who receive the athletic department’s weekly gameplan email, to allow for a breadth of responses. We understand that the current donor and season ticket base cannot back a move like this on their own, but it is important for us to gain feedback from our most engaged constituents. The questions are specific to future athletic fundraising support and your assistance will play an integral part in shaping the direction of our efforts.
Please consider participating in this important survey via the link (Click Here to Take Survey). Contact 540-568-DUKE if you have any questions.
