HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 28, 2013 – Emory Camper and Dani Rutter scored goals for William & Mary as the Tribe posted a 2-1 win over the James Madison women’s soccer team Saturday night at University Park.

The loss ends the Dukes’ five-game winning streak, dropping them to 8-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference. The Tribe, the defending regular season champion, picked up the three points for the conference win, improving to 4-1-4 overall and 1-0-0 in the CAA.

The Dukes held an 11-4 advantage in shots and controlled the action for most of the first half, but the Tribe was able to get better looks, putting all four of its shots on goal. Camper broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 42nd minute. Sophomore goalie Ellen Forrest (Midlothian, Va./James River) made a great save on a shot by Dani Rutter, but Camper put in the rebound for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

After back-and-forth action in the second half, Rutter upped her team’s lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 85th minute. Anna Madden set up the score, giving Rutter a one-on-one opportunity in front of the net.

JMU cut the lead to one as sophomore Kelly Kerrigan (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) scored her second goal of the season in the 89th minute. She received a cross from junior Katie Hyland (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and beat the goalie to the left. Hyland leads the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists.

Caroline Casey made three saves to pick up her fourth win of the season. Forrest stopped three shots in a losing effort.

The Dukes were ranked second in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region poll entering the game. The Tribe was ranked seventh.

JMU continues conference play when it travels to take on Delaware on Thursday. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
