NEW ORLEANS, La., July 25, 2013 – The James Madison track & field squad earned its second straight Division I All-Academic accolade from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) after posting a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.13 during the spring 2013 indoor and outdoor seasons.

Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and Jennifer Monk (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic), who both graduated in May 2013, as well as rising sophomore Jenna Flickinger (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) were tabbed as USTFCCCA All-Academic individuals.

Team academic honors are awarded to squads with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.  Individual honors are given to athletes with a GPA of 3.25 or better.  In total, 187 teams, including seven from the Colonial Athletic Association, and 710 women earned the distinction.

Harman became a two-time CAA champion in 2013 with her second straight win in the 1,500-meter run.  She also placed 13th in the 5,000-meter run at the Eastern College Athletic Conference outdoor championships and 35th in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA East Regional.

Flickinger joined Harman at the NCAA East Regional and tallied a 21st-place finish in the 10,000-meter run.  As the lone Duke at the US Track & Field Junior Nationals, she notched a seventh-place finish in the 5,000-meter run.  At her first conference championship meet, she placed second in the 10,000-meter run.

Monk set a JMU record in the outdoor heptathlon at the CAA championships, posting a second-place score of 4,796 points.  Her performance surpassed her previous best of 4,555 points and the previous record of 4,782 points, set in 2008 by Christine Nicewonger.
