HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison women's golf team is headed to Auburn, Ala. and the Auburn University Golf Club for the NCAA East Regional, May 8-11. The No. 22-seeded Dukes earned the Colonial Athletic Association's automatic berth after winning the CAA Tournament just over a week ago. Seventy-two teams and 18 individuals have qualified for the postseason
JMU won the first three CAA championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005, but only appeared in the 2005 NCAA East Regional in Gainesville, Fla., as the league's first automatic berth winner. Madison has also had two individual qualifiers for the Regionals, as Carol Green advanced to the 2004 NCAA East Regional and Nicole Sakamoto played in the 2010 NCAA East Regional.
Practice rounds will occur on May 8, followed by 18 holes on each of the following three days. Twenty-four teams and six individuals on non-advancing teams, divided equally among the four regions, will advance to the NCAA Championship at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., May 21-24.
