LAST MATCH-UP
1/3/88, Miami, Fla.: JMU 65, Georgia Southern 62

SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN
♦  Georgia Southern is a member of the Southern Conference and is located in Statesboro, Ga.  Like JMU, it was founded in 1908 and in its early years was primarily a teachers college.
♦  The Eagles bring a 1-9 record into Monday's game. Georgia Southern has lost seven in a row, including a 54-53 defeat at George Mason on Saturday.  The Eagles led the entire game except for the opening basket and final basket.  Mason's Kyana Jacobs hit a layup with 12 seconds left to give the Patriots the victory.
♦ Junior guard Mimi DuBose, who scored a game-high 22 points at Mason, leads the Eagles in scoring (13.7) and is the only player averaging in double figures.  Freshman forward Sierra Kirkland, who had nine rebounds at Mason, leads her team in that category (5.6).
♦  On the Road:  Georgia Southern has played at home only once this season, a Dec. 7 contest vs. Mercer.  Monday's game is the fifth straight road game for the Eagles, who will play six consecutive games on the road before their next home game.  The last three games during that stretch are against Colonial Athletic Association members George Mason (Dec. 29) and JMU and future CAA member College of Charleston (Jan. 5).  The Eagles also played a CAA school in their season-opening game, when they lost 73-48 at Georgia State.
♦  Area Connections:  Georgia Southern coach Chris Vozab is in her first season at Georgia Southern.  She was an assistant coach at Dayton in 2011-12 and before that spent four seasons (2007-11) as an assistant coach under then-Winthrop coach Bud Childers.  Childers was the head coach at JMU from 1997-2002.  GSU assistant coach Carolyn Riley is from Warrenton, Va., and played for JMU's Harrisonburg-neighbor school, Eastern Mennonite University, from 2006-08.

JMU FAST BREAK
♦  The Dukes wrap up a stretch of three straight home games in Monday's New Year's Eve matchup.
♦  JMU has won its last two contests and is coming off an 88-34 win over Maine on Dec. 28.
♦  The Dukes, who conclude non-conference play against Georgia Southern, open Colonial Athletic Association competition on Jan. 6 at North Carolina Wilmington.  JMU was picked by league coaches to finish second in the CAA behind defending champion Delaware.
♦  Senior guard Tarik Hislop continues to lead the Dukes in scoring (17.0), while junior Kirby Burkholder is JMU's top rebounder (7.5) and second-leading scorer (13.8).
