NORFOLK, Va., April 16, 2009 -- Three James Madison men's tennis players, junior Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and sophomores Jared Robinson (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Stithians) and Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson), were named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association second team on Thursday.  Robinson was a singles selection while Smith and King were doubles selections.

The 2008 CAA co-Rookie of the Year, Robinson was named to the All-CAA second team for the second year in a row.  He finished the 2009 regular season with a 17-14 singles record, including 12-8 in the spring season.  For his career the South African is 29-21 playing mostly No. 1 singles for the Dukes.

Smith was named an all-conference choice for the third time, garnering second-team honors in 2008 and third-team honors in 2007, while King received his first All-CAA award.  The duo played 10 doubles matches together, going 5-5 at No. 1 doubles.  Smith was 14-13 on the year, playing with five different partners, while King went 9-9 with four different partners.

For his career, Smith is 47-31 in doubles play.

Old Dominion senior Aleksandr Seleznev was named the conference Player of the Year after going 26-8 at No. 1 singles, including a 19-4 mark in dual match competition.  Seleznev, who is ranked #78 in the nation in singles, has won 11 of his last 12 matches, including a victory over #12 Sanam Singh of Virginia.  Seleznev is the third different ODU player in the past five years to be named CAA Player of the Year.

Also earning top honors from the conference were VCU freshman Nicolas Vinel as CAA Rookie of the Year and UNC Wilmington's Mait DuBois as CAA Coach of the Year.

Joining Seleznev on the All-CAA singles first team were VCU junior Thibaut Charron, ODU sophomore Tobias Fanselow, William & Mary junior Keziel Juneau, UNCW sophomore Michael Pereira and VCU senior Martin Schulhauser.

Three doubles teams received All-CAA first team honors as well.  Making the squad were ODU's Seleznev and Fanselow, VCU freshman Benjamin Bouhana and senior Emil Lindgren and W&M's Juneau and sophomore Sebastien Vidal.

The awards were presented Thursday night prior to the quarterfinals of the 2009 CAA Men's Tennis Championship, which resumes Friday morning at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University.  The tournament runs through Sunday, with the men's championship set for 1 p.m. on April 19.

Sixth-seeded JMU opens its tournament on Friday at 3:30 p.m. against the third-seeded W&M Tribe.
