    HARRISONBURG, Va., April 19, 2010 - James Madison men's tennis player Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) was a finalist for both JMU's Male Athlete of the Year and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, which was presented Monday night at the annual JMU student-athlete awards banquet.

    Smith finished the 2009-10 season with a 19-16 singles record and a 23-11 mark in doubles play.  He led the Dukes to a 15-10 record and the six-seed in the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association Championships while rising as high as 38th in the itatennis.com doubles rankings with partner Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson).  The senior was a second-team All-CAA singles selection and a third-team All-CAA doubles selection.

    Smith is a business management major.  His cumulative grade point average is a 2.9.

    Football player Arthur Moats was the winner of the Male Athlete of the Year Award.  Mike Fabiaschi of the baseball team received the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.
