NORFOLK, Va., April 15, 2010 - Three James Madison men's tennis players, senior Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson), junior Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson) and sophomore Tommi Nissinen (Oulu, Finland/Kastellin Lukio) were named All-Colonial Athletic Association selections on Thursday. Smith was a second-team singles selection and third-team doubles selection. Nissinen was named to the singles third team while King joined Smith as a third-team doubles selection.
A four-time All-CAA doubles selection, Smith was named to the singles second team after going 19-16 overall and 13-11 during dual matches while playing in the Dukes' top spot. For his career, the senior improved to 62-60.
Nissinen received the first conference honors of his career after leading the Dukes with a 25-9 singles record. The Finn went 18-6 while playing No. 3 singles in dual matches, including winning a career-high seven straight at one point. They went 13-8 during the spring and 23-10 overall and won a pair of tournament titles during the fall tournament season. In two seasons playing together, the duo improved to 28-15. Smith's all-time doubles record is 70-41 while King enters Friday's CAA Championship match against UNC Wilmington with a 32-21 mark.
VCU's Thibaut Charron, the nation's 25th-ranked singles player, was chosen as the CAA Player of the Year after posting a 21-6 overall record, including a 17-4 mark in dual matches. He captured 10 of his final 12 matches, with seven of those victories coming over nationally ranked foes.

Joining Charron on the All-CAA singles first team were Whiteford, Old Dominion junior Tobias Fanselow, UNC Wilmington junior Michael Pereira and William and Mary's Keziel Juneau and Sebastien Vidal.
Three doubles teams received All-CAA first team honors as well. Vidal made the first team twice with partners Juneau and Whiteford while Delaware's Austin Longacre and Andre Vorobyov were the third team honored.
The awards were presented Thursday night prior to the quarterfinals of the 2010 Men's Tennis Championship, which resumes Friday morning at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the men's championship set for 10 a.m. on April 18.
