HARRISONBURG, Va., March 30, 2010 - James Madison
men's tennis senior Mike Smith
(Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) was named Colonial Athletic Association Singles
co-Player of the Week on Wednesday for the week ending March 28.
Smith led the Dukes to a 3-1 record against
four conference foes last week, including a 2-1 record in the CAA Round Robin
Tournament in Towson, Md. The senior
went 4-0 at No. 1 singles, beating the top opponent from George Mason,
Delaware, Drexel and Georgia State.
Among his four victories was a 6-4, 6-7,
6-3 victory over Austin Longacre of Delaware in a 4-3 triumph over the Blue Hens. Smith beat Jackson Moore of Georgia State
6-3, 7-6(8) while taking down Jorge Osuna of George Mason and Nikoloz Kurdadze
of Drexel in straight sets.
Smith shared the Player of the Week honors
with Thibault Charron of France. UNC
Wilmington's Kinshuk Sharma and Max Ando Hirsh received the Doubles Team of the
Week honors.
The Dukes take on a pair on in-state rivals
this week, playing host to Radford on Wednesday at the Convocation Center
Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. before traveling to Richmond on Thursday for a 2:30
p.m. match.
